Muhammed Hasanov joined the Choosing Islamic Conservatism project as a Qualitative Researcher in Balkans Islamic Studies in November 2025. Working directly with Professor Masooda Bano he is involved in a variety of qualitative data collection and mapping educational platforms in the Balkans.
His doctoral thesis focuses on how the Armenian Question and Pan-Islamism affected the functioning of the Ottoman Consulates in Liverpool between 1891 and 1908. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in History in Turkey in 2020 and earned a Master’s degree in International Relations at LJMU in 2021. During his doctoral studies, supported by different scholarships, he worked in research centres in Istanbul, Sarajevo, and Sofia.
His research interests are generally in Ottoman History, but more specifically in Ottoman diplomatic history, diplomatic missions, Pan-Islamism, Ottoman diplomats, and Islam in the Balkans.
